Don't share private information with those who don't need it or who you don't want to know. Be cautious in the way in which your information is disclosed.
Check a website's privacy policy to determine what type of information is being collected and used. Not all sites have privacy policies and even if they do, some sites might not adhere to it. As such, it is better to deal with larger well known sites.
Don't post to newsgroups if you don't want your email to be known to the public.
Don't respond to spammers (i.e., people who send you junk email) or to people you don't know.
Don't disclose personal information such as phone numbers, social insurance numbers, social security numbers and bank account numbers. Never disclose your credit card number unless you are planning to buy something.
Check our Complaint Database prior to buying any item or service to check to see if there are any prior complaints or reports of fraud or abuses.
Be careful about passwords. Choose an appropriate Password and don't share your password unless it is necessary.
Ensure that you type in the proper email address of the recipient otherwise you could be sending your email to the wrong person.
You can set your preferences in your browser to disable Cookies if you wish.
